Sunday's rubber match once again featured lots of hits and plenty of runs, but A&M-Texarkana was on the wrong end of the balance as LSU-Alexandria took the series with a 13-6 win at Dobson Field. The Generals (17-14 overall, 9-6 RRAC) took an 8-0 lead before letting the Eagles (14-16, 8-7) on the scoreboard and had an answer for each scoring response by the hosts.
Luke Hyzdu pounded four hits for the Eagles, Kyle McMullen and Hunter Reid each had solo home runs and a double, but the Generals blasted three home runs off TAMUT pitching, including three- and two-run shots.
Blake Taylor (1-2) took the loss after a three-inning outing that included three strikeouts but also four hits, four walks and five earned runs. The Eagles walked 10 batters on the day as six pitchers took the hill for A&M-Texarkana.
After a scoreless first frame, the Generals scored twice in the second, three times in the third and three more in the fourth. Following a four-run fourth by the Eagles, LSUA responded with a three-spot in the sixth and added a pair in the seventh to keep the Eagles at a safe distance.
The Eagles are home again Friday and Saturday for a three-game series against Jarvis Christian (14-19, 8-10) at Dobson Field. The opener is slated for Friday at 6 pm with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
