A&M-Texarkana opened its home and conference schedule Feb. 18-19, doing so with a three-game sweep of University of Southwest (NM) at Dobson Field.
The Eagles (5-6 overall, 3-0 RRAC) powered their way to a 12-6 win in Game 1 behind 10 hits, including three by Luke Hyzdu, who went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI. Brandon Riley and Pudge Carlisle each drove in a pair. Michael Passariello picked up the win, throwing five strong shutout innings with three strikeouts.
In Game 2, TAMUT needed extra innings to take a 4-2 victory, highlighted by Dylan Simmons' two-run walkoff home run in the bottom of the 10th. Simmons finished the day with three hits and Dakota Leopold had two. Oscar Sanchez struck out four and scattered five hits across seven innings, surrendering just two runs.
Game 3 was much different than its predecessor in that the Eagles took care of business in just seven innings, blasting the Mustangs by a 14-1 count. TAMUT pounded 13 hits, including six doubles, with three of those coming from Hyzdu. He and Eric Spencer each drove in three runs. Collin Fenili got the win, tossing six innings with five strikeouts.
