Eagles unable to climb out of early hole against WBU

WALNUT RIDGE, Arkansas — A&M-Texarkana fell behind early Tuesday and was never able to recover in a 4-1 loss to Williams Baptist, dropping the Eagles to 1-1-0 on the season.

WBU scored twice in a four-minute span midway through the first half and added a third goal less than 10 minutes later to take a 3-0 lead at the break. TAMUT fell behind by four goals before finally breaking through in the 89^th minute and avoiding a shutout loss.

FIRST HALF

WBU put three shots on goal in the first half and converted them all to build an overwhelming lead. The hosts scored first at the 20:16 mark, then again just four minutes later. With less than 12 minutes to go in the half, WBU added their third. TAMUT registered as many shots (5) as WBU in the half, but only two were on target.

SECOND HALF

WBU made it 4-0 with a goal in the 57^th minute. The Eagles finally got on the board when Christian Gomez connected with Oluwafisayo Oduwole for a goal, Oduwole's first of the season. TAMUT held an 8-7 advantage in shots in the half, but again only two were on target.

MISSED OPPORTUNITES

The Eagles were whistled for 19 fouls in the contest, 11 of which came in the first half. Jacob Mendez was unable to stop the only three shots he faced, and Seth Brown manned the goal in the second half, making five saves.

NEXT UP

The Eagle men will travel to Marshall on Sunday for a 5:00 pm meeting with Wiley College (0-2-0). Wiley has lost both if its matches by 4-1 scores.
