Men's Basketball Advances to RRAC Semifinals with 83-75 win over OLLU
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's basketball team punched its ticket to the semifinals of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament with an 83–75 victory over No. 4 Our Lady of the Lake University on the Saints' home floor Tuesday night.
The Eagles set the tone early, racing out to an 18–9 advantage in the opening minutes of the first half. OLLU responded over the final 10 minutes before the break, trimming the deficit to just two points at halftime. TAMUT shot 42.9% from the field in the opening period and created second-chance opportunities with strong offensive rebounding. Despite the Saints connecting on 66.7% of their attempts from beyond the arc in the first half, the Eagles remained poised and carried a slim lead into the locker room.
Coming out of halftime, TAMUT elevated its defensive intensity and seized control. The Eagles forced 22 turnovers on the night, converting those miscues into 30 points, while dominating the paint with a commanding 44–22 scoring advantage inside. TAMUT shot 45.7% in the second half and outscored the Saints 45–39 over the final 20 minutes. Timely defensive stops and key rebounds down the stretch helped secure the eight-point win.
Four Eagles reached double figures, led by Deovaunta Williams and Jakari Livingston with 18 points apiece. Williams filled the stat sheet with five rebounds, three assists, and six steals. Daryl Houston notched a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Jason Bush Jr. added 13 points, including three three-pointers.
With the win, the Eagles advance to the RRAC Semifinals in Alexandria, where they will face No. 1 Louisiana State University Shreveport. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Laborde Earles Coliseum as TAMUT continues its postseason run.
