Men’s Basketball Closes Out Regular Season with Road Win Over TAMUSA
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a key 78–70 road victory over Texas A&M–San Antonio in conference action on Saturday night Texas A&M University–Texarkana Texas A&M University–San Antonio.
The Eagles set the tone early, building a 41–30 halftime advantage behind balanced scoring and strong interior presence. TAMUT shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the opening half and controlled the paint throughout the contest.
TAMUSA made a second-half push, outscoring the Eagles 40–37 after the break, but Texarkana answered at the free-throw line down the stretch to secure the eight-point win. The Eagles converted 23-of-31 attempts from the stripe, including an impressive 88.9 percent clip in the second half.
Deovaunta Williams and Jakari Livingston paced the offense with 20 points apiece. Williams added seven rebounds and three assists, while Livingston went 8-of-16 from the field.
Payton Chism provided a spark with 13 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc. Daryl Houston chipped in nine points and six rebounds, and Jason Bush Jr. added eight points and six boards.
As a team, TAMUT outrebounded TAMUSA 33–28 and turned 21 points off turnovers. The Eagles also held the Jaguars to just 40.4 percent shooting from the floor.
Men's basketball now shifts its focus to postseason play. The Eagles will return to San Antonio on Tuesday, February 24, to face the Saints of Our Lady of the Lake University in the opening round of the conference tournament. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
