Williams Powers Men’s Basketball Past Louisiana Christian, 74–66
TEXARKANA, Texas – A strong first half and a standout performance from Deovaunta Williams helped the Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's basketball team secure a 74–66 victory over Louisiana Christian on Saturday afternoon at the Patterson Student Center.
The Eagles jumped out early, taking a 37–30 lead into halftime, and maintained control throughout the second half despite a push from the Wildcats. TAMUT matched Louisiana Christian's 36 second-half points to seal the eight-point win.
Williams led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting, knocking down four three-pointers and adding four assists. Daryl Houston posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebound and surpassed the 1000 career points milestone, while Jarren Cook contributed 10 points.
Texas A&M–Texarkana controlled the paint, outscoring Louisiana Christian 30–14 inside, and turned defense into offense with 18 points off turnovers.
The Eagles improve to 13–7 overall and 10–5 in conference play.
The men will be back in action on the road on Monday, February 2nd, traveling to Hawkins, Texas to face Jarvis Christian in a rescheduled matchup due to the recent ice storm. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
