Men’s Basketball Comes Up Just Short Against LSU Alexandria
TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's basketball team battled down to the final possession Thursday night but came up just short, falling 62–59 to LSU Alexandria in Red River Athletic Conference action at the Patterson Student Center.
The Eagles stayed within striking distance throughout the contest, trailing 28–25 at halftime after a defensive first half that saw both teams struggle to find rhythm offensively. TAMUT continued to fight in the second half, matching LSU Alexandria point for point and cutting the deficit to one possession in the closing minutes. Despite a last second heave by Deovaunta Williams, the Eagles fell short at the final buzzer.
Deovaunta Williams led the Eagles with 17 points, adding four steals and two assists. Daryl Houston posted a strong all-around effort with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists, while Jason Bush Jr. chipped in nine points and seven rebounds. Payton Chism added 11 rebounds and five assists to anchor the Eagles on the glass.
Texas A&M–Texarkana finished with a 45–38 rebounding advantage and outscored LSU Alexandria 32–18 in the paint, but the Eagles were unable to overcome a cold shooting night from beyond the arc as the Generals connected on timely shots late.
Despite the setback, TAMUT showed resilience against one of the conference's top teams as RRAC play continues.
The Eagles will return to action this Saturday at home inside the Patterson Student Center, hosting the Wildcats of Louisiana Christian. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
