Men’s Basketball Falls to No. 25 LSU Shreveport in 2026 Opener
TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's basketball team opened the 2026 portion of its Red River Athletic Conference schedule Saturday afternoon, falling 99–81 to No. 25 LSU Shreveport inside the Patterson Student Center.
The Eagles stayed competitive early, trading baskets with the Pilots throughout a high-scoring first half before heading into the break trailing 47–40. LSU Shreveport's offensive efficiency proved decisive, however, as the visitors shot nearly 59 percent from the field and connected on timely shots in the second half to create separation.
Daniel Vieira-Tuck led TAMUT with a game-high 20 points, adding five rebounds and two assists. Daryl Houston recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, providing a strong presence in the paint on both ends of the floor. Jakari Livingston added 14 points off the bench, while Jarren Cook chipped in 10 points to give the Eagles balanced scoring.
Texas A&M–Texarkana found success attacking the paint, outscoring LSU Shreveport 44–40 inside and holding a 23–14 advantage in second-chance points. The Eagles also forced 19 turnovers, converting them into 25 points, but were unable to overcome the Pilots' perimeter shooting and free-throw efficiency down the stretch.
The Eagles will look to bounce back as Red River Athletic Conference play continues Thursday, January 8, when TAMUT travels to Stafford, Texas, to face North American University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's game.
