Men's Basketball Corrals Southwest 90-66
TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's basketball team delivered an emphatic performance Saturday afternoon, defeating the University of the Southwest, 90–66, to close out their final home matchup of the 2025 calendar year at the Patterson Student Center.
The Eagles came out firing, building a 44–31 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and aggressive defense. TAMUT continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring the Mustangs 46–35 while maintaining control on both ends of the floor.
Deovaunta Williams paced the Eagles with a game-high 23 points, shooting 8-of-13 from the field while adding three three-pointers. Jarren Cook and Daniel Vieira-Tuck each scored 16 points, providing consistent scoring support, while Jakari Livingston chipped in 12 points off the bench. Alex Orr controlled the glass with 11 rebounds, and the Eagles finished with 17 assists on 34 made baskets.
Texas A&M–Texarkana capitalized on turnovers and transition opportunities, scoring 28 points off turnovers and 14 fast-break points. The Eagles also received strong bench production, totaling 27 points, as TAMUT's depth proved to be a difference-maker throughout the contest.
With the victory, the Eagles improved to 8–3 overall and 6–1 in RRAC play, heading into the break with a strong finish to the first half of the season while sitting in second place in the conference standings. The Eagles will return to action on December 30th for a non-conference matchup at Philander Smith, tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
