Balanced Effort Lifts Men's Basketball to 87–72 Conference Win
TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's basketball team turned in a complete performance Tuesday night at the Patterson Student Center, rolling past Jarvis Christian University, 87–72, to earn its first Red River Athletic Conference win of the season.
The Eagles set the tone early, shooting efficiently in the opening half and using balanced scoring to build a 43–30 advantage at the break. TAMUT controlled the tempo with strong interior play and steady defensive pressure, forcing 12 Jarvis turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Texas A&M–Texarkana carried that momentum into the second half, matching Jarvis bucket for bucket while extending the lead to as many as 20. The Eagles finished the night with 32 points in the paint and converted 25 points off turnovers to keep the pressure on throughout.
Deovaunta Williams led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-19 shooting, adding four rebounds, three assists, and two steals while also surpassing the 1,000-point mark for his career. Jakari Livingston delivered a big boost off the bench, pouring in 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers.
Jarren Cook contributed 14 points and knocked down three triples, while Daryl Houston anchored the paint with 15 rebounds to go along with nine points, three assists, and two steals. Alex Orr chipped in eight points, and Jyrin Sowell added seven to round out the starting unit.
The Eagles finished with 28 bench points and outrebounded the Bulldogs, 43–42, while forcing 24 Jarvis turnovers on the night.
With the win, A&M–Texarkana improves to 3–3 on the season and 1–1 in RRAC play. The Eagles will look to build on the momentum as they continue conference action later this week.
