PINEVILLE, Louisiana — A&M-Texarkana rebounded from a pair of tough losses Saturday to take the third and final game of the conference series at Louisiana Christian on Sunday. Brandon Riley homered twice, finishing with four hits and five RBIs and Oscar Sanchez threw a complete game leading the Eagles (22-21 overall, 15-12 RRAC) to a 14-4 seven-inning win over the Wildcats (30-13, 22-8).
Eric Spencer drove in three runs, Brian Reid had two hits and two RBIs, while Luke Hyzdu, Dakota Leopold, Masashi Takegama and Brian Reid each had a pair of hits. Sanchez improved to 4-5 this season, scattering six hits and four runs while striking out four.
LCU took a brief 1-0 lead before Spencer tied it in the second on a sacrifice fly. Shraedon Naeole-Starkey gave the Eagles the lead in the third, starting a five-run inning with an RBI single. Spencer then singled into center to make it 4-1 and Reid did the same, plating a pair of runs on another single for a 6-1 lead. Riley hit his first home run in the fourth to make it 7-2.
The Wildcats cut the lead down to 7-4, but Takegama walked to score a run in the sixth, Naeole-Starkey walked to bring in another, and Reid hit a sac fly to put the Eagles up 10-4. In the seventh, Riley crushed a ball to right center for a grand slam to make it 14-4.
NEXT UP
The Eagles are back home for their final three games of the regular season, a conference series against UH-Victoria (21-24, 15-12) beginning Friday at 6 pm. They'll play a doubleheader Saturday at Dobson Field beginning at 1 pm with the seniors being recognized prior to the start.
The RRAC postseason tournament is scheduled for May 4-8 in Sterlington, La. The Eagles currently hold the fifth seed, 1.5 games behind Our Lady of the Lake and just one game ahead of UH-Victoria.
