Reid homers three times but Eagles unable to avoid doubleheader sweep by LCU
Hunter Reid homered three times and drove in eight runs during Saturday’s doubleheader, but it wasn’t enough for the Eagles to avoid falling in both games against Louisiana Christian in conference play.

PINEVILLE, Louisiana — Hunter Reid homered three times and drove in eight runs during Saturday's doubleheader, but it wasn't enough for the Eagles to avoid falling in both games against Louisiana Christian in conference play.
The Eagles (21-21 overall, 15-11 RRAC) lost a high-scoring affair in the opening game, 13-12, and the host Wildcats (30-12, 22-7) rallied for a 5-3 win in the second contest. The series concludes Sunday with a 1 pm start.
GAME 1
The opening game was a wild back-and-forth affair with the lead changing hands five times over the course of seven innings. The Eagles hit four home runs with Reid going yard twice, Luke Hyzdu hitting another and Masashi Takegama adding the fourth. Hyzdu finished with three hits, Takegama drove in two runs, and Reid finished with 5 RBIs.
Collin Fenili started and went 4.1 innings, but Blake Taylor (1-3) took the loss with two innings of relief work.
Reid hit his first home run – a three-run shot in the second – to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead. Hyzdu followed to make it 4-1 in the same inning. However, the Wildcats would answer with five runs in the bottom half to retake a 6-4 advantage.
Takegama tied the game with a two-run shot in the third, and Reid made it 8-6 with a home run down the line in right. The Eagles added four runs in the fourth to go ahead 12-6. LCU scored two in the fourth, tied the game at 12-12 with four runs in the sixth, then walked off the win in the seventh with a run-scoring single.
GAME 2
Gage Mason pitched seven strong innings in the second game, striking out nine, but turned it over to Casey Nimmo (1-1) in the eighth, where the Wildcats scored three runs to clinch the doubleheader sweep.
With the Eagles trailing 2-0, Reid hit a three-run homer to left in the eighth to take the lead. The Wildcats tied it in the bottom half on a run-scoring single, then delivered the knockout punch with a two-run homer to right.
Dakota Leopold had two hits, Takegama doubled, and Reid reached base three times while driving in all three Eagle runs.
