Women’s Track and Field Wraps Up Regular Season at SMU Invite
DALLAS, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana Women's Track and Field sent a select group of student-athletes to the SMU Invitational, hosted by Southern Methodist University. Competing in a 22-team field that featured numerous NCAA Division I programs, the Eagles held their own across a highly competitive slate of events.
Freshman Vinae Edwards led the way for the Eagles with a standout performance in the women's long jump. Edwards recorded a personal-best mark of 5.62 meters to finish ninth overall, while also moving into the No. 36 mark nationally in the NAIA.
In the field events, Ava Ferreira turned in an 11th-place finish in the women's discus with a throw of 35.72 meters, while Janiya Ross cleared 1.55 meters in the high jump to place 13th.
On the track, the Eagles competed in both hurdle events against deep, Division I-heavy fields. Damaria Bell posted a time of 15.36 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish 31st, while Ja'Kouria Jamerson clocked in at 1:05.15 in the 400-meter hurdles to secure a 21st-place finish.
The SMU Invitational concludes the Eagles' regular season. Texas A&M–Texarkana will now turn its focus to the NAIA National Championships, set to take place in Asheville, North Carolina.
