TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana Women's Tennis picked up two home victories on Friday over Oklahoma Wesleyan and Austin College before facing No. 15 Louisiana Christian on Saturday to close out a busy weekend of non-conference play.
The Eagles opened Friday with a 5–2 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan.
Ana Gonzalez and Lucia Siddens earned a 6–4 victory at No. 1 doubles, but Oklahoma Wesleyan claimed the No. 2 and No. 3 courts to take the doubles point.
TAMUT answered emphatically in singles, winning five of six matches to secure the team victory. Siddens led the way with a 6–2, 6–0 win at No. 1 singles, while Emmanouela Besi followed with a 6–3, 6–4 decision at No. 2. Gonzalez added a 6–2, 6–0 victory at No. 3, and Andrea Castillo battled through three sets at No. 4 to earn a 6–1, 4–6, 6–4 win.
Adrianne Guangko sealed the match at No. 6 with a 6–3, 7–6 triumph.
Later Friday, the Eagles turned in a dominant performance in a 7–0 sweep of Austin College.
TAMUT controlled the match from the start, sweeping all three doubles courts. Gonzalez and Siddens highlighted doubles play with a 6–0 win at No. 1, while Emmanouela Besi and Guangko mirrored that score at No. 2.
The Eagles continued their dominance in singles, not dropping a set. Gonzalez earned a 6–0, 6–1 victory at No. 1, Siddens followed with a 6–0, 6–0 shutout at No. 2, and Besi added another 6–0, 6–0 win at No. 3. Castillo, Maryam Awais, and Guangko each secured straight-set victories to complete the sweep.\
On Saturday, TAMUT squared off against No. 15 Louisiana Christian.
The Eagles earned a highlight victory at No. 1 doubles as Gonzalez and Siddens battled to a 7–5 win. Louisiana Christian claimed the remaining doubles courts and went on to take five of six singles matches to secure the 6–1 team result.
Gonzalez provided the Eagles' lone singles point, fighting through a three-set battle at No. 1 to win 6–1, 2–6, 7–6.
Women's Tennis will return to the courts Sunday at 10 a.m. as the Eagles host Freed-Hardeman to continue their home stand.
