TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana Women's Tennis put together a strong midweek home showing, earning a 5–2 victory over East Texas Baptist University before posting a dominant 7–0 sweep of the University of the Ozarks in non-conference action.
The Eagles opened the weekend with an impressive doubles performance against East Texas Baptist, sweeping all three courts to claim the opening point.
Ana Gonzalez and Zahra Dreyer-Ferreira led the way at No. 1 with a 6–2 victory, while Emmanouela Besi and Lucia Siddens edged out a tight 7–6 (7-2) win at No. 2. Andrea Castillo and Maryam Awais completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles with a 6–2 decision to give TAMUT early momentum.
In singles play, the Eagles secured four wins to clinch the team victory.
Lucia Siddens earned a 7–5, 6–1 win at No. 2 singles, while Gonzalez delivered a commanding 6–1, 6–1 victory at the No. 3 position. Dreyer-Ferreira followed with a 6–3, 6–1 decision at No. 4, and Castillo closed out scoring with a 6–0, 7–5 win at No. 5. East Texas Baptist picked up points at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, but TAMUT's depth proved decisive in the 5–2 final.
The Eagles carried that momentum into their matchup with the University of the Ozarks that evening.
TAMUT once again seized control early, sweeping doubles play. Gonzalez and Dreyer-Ferreira earned a 6–0 win at No. 1, while Castillo and Siddens matched that scoreline at No. 2. The No. 3 position was won by default, giving the Eagles a 1–0 lead entering singles.
The dominance continued across singles courts as TAMUT swept all six matches without dropping a set.
Gonzalez led the charge with a 6–0, 6–1 win at No. 1 singles. Besi followed at No. 2 with a 6–1, 6–0 victory, while Siddens secured a 6–0, 6–0 decision at No. 3. Dreyer-Ferreira added another 6–0, 6–0 win at No. 4, and Awais earned a 6–0, 6–0 victory at No. 5. The No. 6 match was won by default to complete the 7–0 sweep.
Texas A&M–Texarkana controlled doubles play in both matches and carried that energy into singles, highlighted by straight-set victories across the lineup.
Tennis will return home to host Oklahoma Wesleyan and Austin College on Friday, February 20, with matches set to begin at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
