Women’s Tennis Takes Down No. 25 LSU Shreveport in Thrilling 4–3 Finish
TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's tennis secured a thrilling 4–3 victory over No. 25 (NAIA)/ No. 22 (ITA) LSU Shreveport on Thursday afternoon, capitalizing on a strong doubles performance and clutch wins at the bottom of the singles lineup to seal the home triumph.
The Eagles took an early 1–0 lead by claiming the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. At No. 2 doubles, Ana Gonzalez and Zahra Dreyer-Ferreira earned a solid 6–3 victory, while Andrea Castillo and Adrianne Guangko delivered a dominant 6–0 win at the No. 3 position. Emmanouela Besi and Kristin Major fell 6–2 at No. 1 doubles as LSU Shreveport avoided the sweep.
In singles play, TAMUT battled through a tightly contested lineup, earning three key victories to clinch the match. Gonzalez led the way at No. 1 singles with a commanding straight-sets win, 6–4, 6–0. Castillo added another point at No. 5 singles with a decisive 6–0, 6–2 victory, while Guangko secured the match-clinching point at No. 6 singles, rallying for a 7–6, 6–1 win.
LSU Shreveport earned its three points with wins at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles, but the Eagles' depth proved decisive in the narrow victory over a nationally ranked opponent.
The win highlights the resilience and depth of the TAMUT roster as the Eagles continue their spring campaign with momentum on their home courts, currently sitting at 3-0.
Women's Tennis will return to action on Tuesday, February 17th against the University of the Ozarks. The match is set to start at 9 a.m.
