Women’s Tennis Earns 4–3 Victory Over College of Idaho
TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's tennis earned a thrilling 4–3 victory over the College of Idaho on Sunday afternoon at the Pleasant Grove High School Tennis Courts, using depth across the singles lineup to secure its first home win of the spring season.
The Yotes claimed the early advantage by taking the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. TAMUT's lone doubles victory came at the No. 1 position, where Lucia Siddens and Ana Paola Gonzalez earned a 6–3 win. Andrea Castillo and Adrianne Guangko dropped a narrow 7–5 decision at No. 3 doubles, while Emmanouela Besi and Zahra Dreyer Ferreira fell in a tightly contested match at No. 2.
The Eagles responded in singles play, capturing four of six matches to clinch the overall victory. Gonzalez picked up a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles, defeating her opponent 6–4, 6–3. Castillo followed with a 6–2, 6–4 victory at No. 5 singles, while Guangko added another point with a 6–2, 6–4 win at the No. 6 position.
The decisive point came at No. 3 singles, where freshman Dreyer Ferreira battled through three sets to secure the match-clinching victory, earning a 6–2, 3–6, 7–5 win. College of Idaho earned its remaining points with wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles.
The victory highlights the depth and new talent on the TAMUT roster as the Eagles open the spring season on a strong note.
Women's Tennis will be back in action on the road on February 6th as they compete against Christian Brothers University, at neutral site, Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The match is slated to start at 10 a.m.
