Women’s Tennis Records Strong Performances at ITA Regionals
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's tennis team recently competed in what is considered one of the most competitive ITA Regionals in the NAIA. The event featured six nationally ranked programs, including No. 4 Loyola (La.), No. 11 Xavier (La.), No. 12 LSU Alexandria, No. 16 Our Lady of the Lake, No. 18 Louisiana Christian, No. 21 Dillard, and No. 42 Texas A&M–Texarkana.
Highlights
Leading the way for the Eagles was Emma Besi, who earned a first-round bye before defeating Yihan Chen from Dillard University 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the Round of 16. There, she battled No. 11 Xavier's Ana Sabikova in a competitive 6-4, 6-1 match.
Sophomore Ana Gonzalez also turned in a strong performance in consolation play. After dropping her opening-round match, Gonzalez received a bye and went on an impressive run, winning three straight matches to reach the consolation singles final. She ultimately fell in a thrilling 9-8 tiebreak to Joline Roesch of LSU Alexandria.
