Tennis Traveled to New Orleans to Compete in ITA Regionals
This past weekend the Men's and Women's Tennis teams traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to compete in the ITA Regionals hosted this year by Xavier University. The teams that were competing this past weekend in the tournament were; Xavier, William Carey, Our Lady of the Lake, LSU-Alexandria, LSU-Shreveport, Louisiana Christian, Dillard, and Loyola (New Orleans).
The Eagles would compete in both Singles and Doubles while there.
Singles
Men's Tennis
Going into the singles tournament, Andrew Otzenberger was seeded 8th. Otzenberger won in the round of 32 against Diego Rodriguez Tobar of Loyola (N.O.),and in the round of 16 against Nour Salah Ibrahim of Dillard University. He would advance to the Quarterfinals where he would take on the #1 seed of the tournament, who is also ranked #12 in the country Kyllian Savary of Our Lady of the Lake University. Otzenberger would fall to Savary after a hard-fought match that lasted 2 ½ hours, 4-6, 6-4. 5-10.
Freshman Alvaro Tormo would also win his first round of singles play against David Zack of Dillard University but would succumb in the second round to #3 seed David Ekpenyong of Our Lady of the Lake University.
Mauricio Trevino won two round in consolation, but was unable to finish the tournament, along side teammate ker Alonso who also won a round in consolation.
Women's Tennis
Freshman Adrianne won her first two rounds in consolation in singles play and teammates Nerea Errasti and Ana Paola Gonzalez additionally won a round in consolation.
Doubles
Men's Tennis
In the doubles side of the tournament, Andrew Otzenberger and Mauricio Trevino were seeded #2 and won in the first round against Ivan Vazquez and Artur Yakubov of XULA but would fall to Islam Orynbassar and William Crowe of William Carey 8-6.
Freshmen Alvaro Tormo and Craig Crookston would also win in the first round of play against Albert Onichtchenko and Daniel Crownie of Dillard University but would be beaten in the second round by #1 seed Kyllian Savary and Aymeric Bruno of Our Lady of the Lake University.
Women's Tennis
Adrianne Guangko and Ana Paola Gonzalez would defeat Joline Roesch and Kamapriya Rajawat of LSU-Alexandria in the first round of consolation but would fall to Chloe Henderson and Adele Fereres of Loyola (N.O) in the second round.
Women's Tennis will be back in action this coming Friday, October 4th as they take on Henderson State in an exhibition match. Men's Tennis will be back in action on October 11th as they will go and compete at Harding University in the Harding Tournament.
