Women's Basketball Advances to RRAC Semifinals in Alexandria
TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's basketball team opened postseason play in impressive fashion Tuesday night, knocking off University of North Texas at Dallas 72–59 inside the Patterson Student Center in the Red River Athletic Conference Quarterfinals.
The Eagles controlled the tempo from the opening tip, building a 17–5 advantage at the end of the first quarter and extending the lead to 39–20 by halftime. TAMUT shot 45.0% in the second quarter and limited UNT Dallas to just five points in the opening frame, setting the tone with defensive pressure and rebounding dominance.
Coming out of the break, the Eagles continued to apply pressure, outscoring the Trailblazers 24–20 in the third quarter to push the lead past 20. TAMUT forced 26 turnovers on the night and converted those into 29 points, while also holding a 40–32 edge in points in the paint and a 32–24 advantage in bench scoring. The Eagles finished with 19 steals and 45 total rebounds to help secure the 13-point victory.
Four Eagles reached double figures, led by Breyionce George with 15 points and seven rebounds. Imani Rothschild added 11 points and dished out a team-high six assists to go along with four steals. Maiya Petit provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, including a three-pointer, while Unique McBride contributed 10 points and went 8-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Chioma Treasure Emeh controlled the glass with eight rebounds and added six points and five steals, while Eleionna Brown chipped in nine points off the bench.
As a team, TAMUT shot 35.5% from the field and knocked down five three-pointers, while limiting UNT Dallas to 40.0% shooting and just 18.2% from beyond the arc.
With the win, the Eagles advance to the RRAC Semifinals in Alexandria, where they will face No. 3 A&M-San Antonio. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Laborde Earles Coliseum as TAMUT continues its postseason run.
