Women’s Basketball Strengthens Conference Position with Win at Jarvis Christian
HAWKINS, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's basketball team picked up a key road conference win Monday night, defeating Jarvis Christian 74–60.
The Eagles set the tone early, racing out to a 22–8 lead after the first quarter behind strong defensive pressure and balanced scoring. Jarvis Christian responded in the second period, trimming the deficit to 35–28 at halftime.
TAMUT regained control in the third quarter, outscoring Jarvis Christian 19–14 before closing the game strong with a 20-point fourth quarter to secure the 14-point victory.
Maiya Petit led the Eagles with 13 points, going 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. Chi'onne Dailey and Unique McBride each added 11 points, with McBride also pulling down five rebounds off the bench.
Imani Rothschild contributed nine points and four assists, while Eleionna Brown added nine points on an efficient 4-of-7 shooting performance. Breyionce George paced the Eagles on the glass with six rebounds to go along with seven points.
As a team, TAMUT forced 24 turnovers and recorded 12 steals while holding Jarvis Christian to just 36.7 percent shooting from the floor and 18.2 percent from three-point range.
The Eagles finished with 35 rebounds and 14 offensive boards in the win.
Women's basketball returns to conference action later this week in San Antonio for their final two games of the regular season.
