Women’s Basketball Edged by Xavier 59-53
TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana Women's Basketball dropped a hard-fought conference matchup Thursday evening, falling to Xavier (La.) 59–53 inside the Patterson Student Center.
The Eagles battled throughout but struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm against the Gold Nuggets' defensive pressure. Xavier opened the game with a 15–12 first-quarter lead and held a narrow advantage heading into halftime.
TAMUT gained momentum at stretches in the second half behind defensive stops and paint scoring, but Xavier answered down the stretch, outscoring the Eagles in the final period to secure the six-point victory.
Chi'onne Dailey led Texas A&M–Texarkana with 18 points and six rebounds while adding two steals. Imani Rothschild contributed eight points, nine rebounds, and four steals, and Taralyn Sweeney added eight points off the bench.
Chioma Treasure Emeh pulled down five rebounds and dished out two assists, while Eleionna Brown added seven boards and five points in the effort.
The Eagles forced 21 turnovers defensively but shot 32.8% from the field, which proved to be the difference as Xavier converted timely scoring opportunities.
Texas A&M University–Texarkana will return to action on Saturday, February 14th, hosting North American in their final home game of the season at the Patterson Student Center. The Eagles will also honor their seniors as part of Senior Day festivities, with tipoff set for 1:00 p.m.
