Women’s Basketball Dominates Southwest 73–39 on the Road
HOBBS, New Mexico – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's basketball team delivered a dominant performance on the road Thursday night, rolling past the University of the Southwest Mustangs, 73–39.
The Eagles came out firing, pouring in 25 points in the opening quarter while shooting an impressive 48 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. TAMUT carried that momentum into the second quarter, adding 19 more points before halftime. The Eagle defense was equally stifling, limiting the Mustangs to just seven points in each of the first two periods to take a commanding 44–14 lead into the break.
TAMUT's first-half dominance proved more than enough to secure the victory. Despite a quieter offensive output in the second half, the Eagles maintained control throughout and closed out the 34-point win.
Eleionna Brown led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points, shooting 50 percent from the field and 66 percent from beyond the arc. Breyioncce George paced TAMUT on the glass with eight rebounds while adding six points. Taraylyn Sweeney contributed across the board with a game-high three steals, two assists, and seven points.
It was a true team effort for the Eagles, with 13 different players finding the scoring column. TAMUT's bench made a major impact, outscoring USW's reserves 45–8, while the Eagles also controlled the paint with a 54–24 advantage.
With the win, TAMUT improves to 15–7 overall and 13–3 in conference play.
The Eagles return to the road Saturday, February 7, traveling to UNT Dallas for their first-ever RRAC matchup on the UNTD campus. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
