Women's Basketball Hold Off Late Surge to Defeat Wiley, 78–69
TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana Women's Basketball secured another home conference victory Tuesday night, defeating Wiley University 78–69 inside the Patterson Student Center.
The Eagles controlled the game early, building separation in the first half behind efficient scoring and defensive pressure. TAMUT led 36–22 at the break after holding Wiley to just 10 points in the second quarter.
A&M-Texarkana continued to extend its lead in the third, outscoring the Wildcats 20–10 to take a commanding advantage into the final period. Wiley mounted a strong fourth-quarter push with 37 points, but the Eagles' earlier cushion proved too much to overcome.
Chi'onne Dailey led the Eagles offensively with 19 points, going 9-of-12 from the free throw line. Breyionce George added 13 points, while Maiya Petit provided a spark off the bench with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Eleionna Brown also reached double figures with 10.
TAMUT dominated the paint, outscoring Wiley 46–24 inside, and capitalized on turnovers, converting them into 27 points. The Eagles also distributed the ball well, finishing with 17 assists as a team.
With the win, Texas A&M–Texarkana improves to 14–7 overall and 12–3 in conference play.
The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday, February 5th, traveling to Hobbs, New Mexico to take on the Mustangs of Southwest. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. MT / 6:30 p.m. CT.
