Women’s Basketball Takes Road Victory at Xavier
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's basketball team earned a hard-fought 55–51 road victory Saturday afternoon over Xavier University of Louisiana in Red River Athletic Conference road action.
The Eagles controlled the tempo early, building a 14–10 lead after the opening quarter before extending their advantage to 30–22 at halftime behind disciplined defense and steady execution on both ends of the floor.
Xavier responded with a strong third quarter, trimming the deficit and setting up a tightly contested final period. TAMUT remained composed down the stretch, making timely stops and converting at the free-throw line to hold off a late Gold Nuggets push and secure the road win.
Chi'onne Dailey led the Eagles with a team-high 14 points while adding three assists and three steals. Imani Rothschild followed with 13 points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals, providing steady leadership throughout the contest. Nailah Zetrenne added 13 points and eight rebounds, anchoring the interior and giving TAMUT a strong presence on the glass.
A&M–Texarkana finished with a 37–37 rebounding effort and generated 13 second-chance points, while its defense forced 23 Xavier turnovers and limited the Gold Nuggets to 37 percent shooting from the floor.
With the win, the Eagles continue to build momentum in conference play as the RRAC slate rolls on.
Women's Basketball will return to action on Thursday, January 15th, at home in the Patterson Student Center. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
