Women’s Basketball Drops Competitive Conference Opener at The Dock
SHREVEPORT, La. – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's basketball team battled on the road Thursday evening for their first conference match up of the year. The Eagles came up short against the RV Pilots of LSU Shreveport, falling 70–62 at The Dock. Despite a slow offensive start, the Eagles surged in the second half and outscored the Pilots 39–34 over the final two quarters, showing resilience and improved rhythm on both ends of the floor.
LSUS opened the game with efficient shooting, building a 17–9 lead after the first quarter and extending the margin to 36–23 at halftime. TAMUT responded with its strongest stretch of the night in the third period, shooting 44% from the field and knocking down three triples to pull within single digits. The Eagles continued to push in the fourth, but LSUS relied on timely free throws and inside scoring to hold off the comeback.
Breyionce George led the Eagles offensively with a standout 23-point performance on 8-of-18 shooting, including three three-pointers and four made free throws. She added five rebounds and four steals in 35 minutes, providing energy on both ends. Imani Rothschild delivered a well-rounded game with nine points, three rebounds, and five assists, while freshman Evelyn Terraza Alcántar added five points and three assists of her own.
Off the bench, Eleionna Brown sparked TAMUT with 11 points on an efficient 4-of-7 shooting night, including two three-pointers, while also contributing five rebounds and two assists. Chioma Treasure Emeh anchored the interior defense, finishing with six points, five rebounds, and a team-high five steals—her second straight game with another strong defensive effort.
As a team, the Eagles forced 25 LSUS turnovers, converting them into 25 points on the other end. TAMUT also held a 12–6 edge in fast break points and outscored the Pilots' bench 15–7.
LSUS was led by Toni Coleman's 26 points and 14 made free throws, while Ally Fleenor added 17 points and eight rebounds. With the loss, A&M–Texarkana moves to 0–5 (0–1 RRAC), but continues to show growth through a challenging early-season schedule.
The Eagles return home to prepare for their next matchup on Monday, November 24th, as TAMUT hosts the Panthers of Philander Smith at the Patterson Student Center. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
