A&M-Texarkana let a late lead slip away Saturday as Jarvis Christian hit a buzzer-beating layup to hand the Eagles a heartbreaking 63-62 loss at the Patterson Center. The Eagles (8-6, 5-3 RRAC) led by as many as eight points in the fourth period but the visiting Bulldogs (8-7, 4-6) chipped away until TAMUT missed a three-point shot which resulted in Yvonne Forman's game-winning shot, snapping the Eagles' six-game win streak.
The Eagles shot just 31.8 percent from the floor (21-of-66) and hit just 3-of-18 shots from behind the arc (16.7 percent). They also started and ended the game cold, shooting 21.1 percent in the first quarter and 25 percent in the fourth.
Kayla Williams posted a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double that also included four assists and three steals, Delfina Misuina pumped in 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Jaslyn Woods finished with 12 points and four steals. Two-time RRAC Player of the Week Semaj Adams was held to just six points in 21 minutes.
Jacy Reese paced the Bulldogs with 15 points, Jada Williams added 13 and Micah McCrea had 12 points, seven boards and seven assists.
Jarvis took advantage of the Eagles' poor shooting to grab an 18-15 lead after one period, but the hosts bounced back to build a 37-31 lead at intermission. Jarvis outscored the Eagles 32-25 in the second half.
TAMUT continues its four-game homestand Thursday against North American (8-8, 5-4) at 5:30 pm and wraps it up Saturday against Xavier (11-3, 8-1) at 2 pm.
