WACO, Texas — Even though both the roster and coaching staff are receiving a major overhaul, the A&M-Texarkana women's basketball team is still getting some respect from the Red River Athletic Conference. The Eagles check in at No. 2 in the RRAC Preseason Poll, released Wednesday and voted on by the head coaches from the conference.
The Eagles went unbeaten in conference play a year ago then steamrolled their way through the RRAC tournament to advance to the NAIA Tournament for the first time in program history before finishing with a 29-2 overall record.
Despite returning just two players from that roster and bringing in a new coaching staff, the Eagles still picked up 129 points in the poll and five first-place votes, trailing just LSU-Shreveport, who earned 136 points.
TAMUT will be led by Chris Minner, who previously coaches at Our Lady of the Lake and won conference titles. Delfina Sisuina, a 6-3 center from Poland, stands out on the revamped Eagle roster. Bryana Baker and Brianna Richardson are the only returning players from last year's team and the two combined to play just seven minutes per game.
