TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M–Texarkana Eagles turned in a commanding performance on Tuesday, sweeping a doubleheader against Crowley's Ridge College with 5-0 and 11-1 victories at home.
The Eagles set the tone early in game one, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning after Cantu tripled down the right field line and Martin followed with an RBI groundout. TAMUT added another run in the third on a sacrifice fly from Cantu to extend the lead.
A dominant pitching effort carried the Eagles to the shutout win, as Glenn earned the start and tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six. Philips closed the door with two innings of relief, surrendering just one hit and inducing a game-ending double play.
Cantu led the way offensively with two RBIs, while Walker, Haynes, Yeager, and Humphrey each recorded a hit. Martin added patience at the plate with a team-high two walks as the Eagles also turned two double plays defensively.
Game two saw the Eagles' offense explode, highlighted by an eight-run fourth inning to secure the 11-1 run-rule victory. The inning featured contributions across the lineup, including RBI singles from Hernandez and Williams, bases-loaded walks from Cantu, Humphrey, and Haynes, and a three-run triple from Ruiz.
TAMUT once again struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning behind a Williams RBI single and two wild pitches.
Snyder earned the win in the circle, allowing just one run over four innings while striking out four. Benge added a scoreless inning in relief to seal the victory.
Offensively, Cantu and Williams each collected two hits, while Ruiz led the Eagles with three RBIs. The Eagles showed discipline at the plate, drawing eight walks, with Walker and Malone leading the way with two each. TAMUT also applied pressure on the basepaths, stealing six bases, including multiple steals from Ruiz and Williams.
The Eagles were clean defensively in game two, committing no errors, with Haynes leading the team with six chances in the field.
With the sweep, softball moved to 20-5 overall. The Eagles head to Alexandria to face the LSUA Generals in a 3 game RRAC series. First pitch is set for Friday March 20th at 4 p.m.
