SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana softball team completed a three-game sweep over Texas A&M–San Antonio over the weekend, earning wins of 12-2, 3-2, and 2-1 to cap a strong road series.
The Eagles opened the series on Friday with a dominant 12-2 victory, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. TAMUT got on the board in the top of the first inning when Jacqueline Schmidt delivered a sacrifice fly and Skyler Martin followed with an RBI single down the left field line to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage.
TAMUT continued to build its lead in the second inning as Kamryn Walker doubled down the left field line scoring one and Schmidt added a single that would bring home Walker on the throw.. The Eagles' offense continued to produce throughout the game while the pitching staff limited the Jaguars' scoring opportunities.
Rylee Glenn started in the circle for the Eagles, allowing five hits and one run over four innings while striking out four and walking two. Charli Miller appeared in relief to help secure the victory.
Walker led the Eagles offensively, going 2-for-3 with one RBI, while , Mackenzie Williams collected two hits. Williams also drew two walks as TAMUT showed patience at the plate, finishing the game with seven walks. Defensively, the Eagles were flawless, committing no errors and turning a double play.
The Eagles followed with a 3-2 victory in the second game of the series behind another strong pitching effort. Texas A&M–San Antonio opened the scoring in the second inning, but TAMUT responded in the fourth when Yeager grounded out but scored one to tie the game at one apiece.
The Jaguars briefly regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth, but TAMUT answered in the top of the fifth as Cantu delivered an RBI single down the right field line before Clayton added another run with a fielder's choice to give the Eagles a 3-2 advantage.
Snyder started in the circle for TAMUT, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) over four innings. Benge and Miller each appeared in relief and combined to shut down the Jaguars the rest of the way. Cantu led the offense with three hits in four at-bats.
The Eagles completed the sweep on Saturday with a 2-1 extra-inning victory. Texas A&M–San Antonio struck first in the fourth inning before TAMUT tied the game in the fifth when Cantu singled to center field to drive in a run.
The game remained tied until the top of the ninth inning when Cantu delivered again, doubling to bring home the go-ahead run and secure the Eagles' third win of the series.
Philips started the game for TAMUT, allowing one run on five hits across four innings. Miller delivered a standout relief appearance, pitching five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out six.
The Eagles totaled 11 hits in the game, with Williams leading the way by going 3-for-5 at the plate. Humphrey and Martin also recorded multiple hits, while Cantu finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
With the three victories, the Eagles completed the conference sweep and move to 18-5 overall and 9-0 in conference play. Softball returns to action at home on Tuesday, March 17th for a non-conference doubleheader versus Crowley's Ridge. First pitch is s4et for 2 p.m.
