TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas A&M University–Texarkana Softball split Friday's doubleheader with Williams Baptist, dropping a tight pitcher's duel in game one before bouncing back with a 6–2 victory in the finale at Bramlett Field.
Game one featured a strong showing in the circle from both sides, but the Eagles came up just short in a 2–0 loss. Williams Baptist broke the scoreless tie in the second inning, using a triple from Huckabee to plate the game's first run before adding another later in the contest.
Glenn delivered a solid start for TAMUT, allowing six hits and two runs across 5.2 innings while striking out three and walking one. The Eagles' defense backed the effort with a flawless performance in the field, as Schmidt led the way with seven chances.
Schmidt, Ruiz, Haynes, Clayton, and Humphrey each recorded a hit for TAMUT, but the Eagles were unable to push a run across against a complete-game shutout from Williams Baptist's Garner.
TAMUT responded in game two with a much stronger offensive output, earning a 6–2 win to close the day. The Eagles struck first in the opening inning when Ruiz singled home a run, though Williams Baptist briefly took a 2–1 lead in the third following an RBI single from Foster.
The Eagles answered immediately in the bottom half of the frame, reclaiming control of the game. Ruiz launched a two-run homer to left, and Williams followed with an RBI single to cap a three-run inning that put TAMUT ahead for good.
Snyder earned the win in the circle, tossing five innings while allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Benge added two scoreless innings in relief to secure the victory.
Ruiz powered the Eagles offensively, driving in three runs while going 2-for-4 at the plate. Humphrey and Williams also collected two hits apiece as TAMUT once again played error-free defensively, with Humphrey leading the team with six fielding chances.
The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, February 17th as they travel to face CBC in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
