MESQUITE, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana softball posted a 2–2 record over the weekend tournament, highlighted by a dominant run-rule victory and a hard-fought win over international competition.
The #22 Eagles opened Saturday with a 6–3 loss to #9 Science & Arts (USAO). The Drovers struck first with a three-run home run in the opening inning, but TAMUT answered quickly as Morgan Yeager launched a game-tying three-run shot to center in the second. USAO regained control in the fifth with a two-run sequence and held on the rest of the way. Presley Humphrey led the Eagles with two hits, while Yeager drove in all three runs.
TAMUT bounced back later in the day with a 4–2 victory over the University of British Columbia. After trailing early, the Eagles plated four runs in the third inning, capitalizing on timely hits and a UBC error. Kylie Malone and Kasen Morkisch recorded two hits each, while Madison Ruiz and Malone added RBIs. Rylee Glenn was strong in relief, tossing four scoreless innings to secure the win.
Offense exploded on Sunday in a 19–5 rout of Texas Wesleyan. Victoria Clayton powered the Eagles with four RBIs, including a three-run homer, during a massive 12-run sixth inning. TAMUT totaled 16 hits in the contest, led by Grace Cantu's four-hit performance. Kamryn Walker, Jaquelyn Schmidt, and Humphrey also posted multi-hit games as the Eagles drew 11 walks in the run-rule victory.
The tournament finale saw TAMUT fall 9–4 to Southwestern Christian despite an early lead. The Eagles jumped ahead with first-inning run production and a Ruiz solo home run in the second, but SCU answered with a seven-run third inning, highlighted by a grand slam, to take control. Walker paced TAMUT offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Overall, the Eagles showcased offensive firepower throughout the weekend, highlighted by the 19-run performance against Texas Wesleyan and multiple standout individual efforts at the plate.
Softball will be back in action this Friday, February 13th as they host Williams Baptist for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheudled at 1 & 3 p.m.
