Eagles Soar to 4-0 at Gulf Coast Invitational, Taking Down Three Ranked Teams
GULF SHORES, Ala. – Texas A&M University-Texarkana's softball team traveled to Gulf Shores to compete in the Gulf Coast Invitational, hosted by the University of Mobile. Facing off against four nationally ranked teams, the Eagles rose to the challenge, going 4-0 over the weekend. Their fifth game, scheduled for Sunday, was canceled due to weather.
Game 1: Texas A&M-Texarkana 8, Campbellsville 7
The Eagles opened the tournament against the 23rd-ranked Tigers of Campbellsville. The game went into extra innings, where a sacrifice fly by Brooke Usrey drove in the winning run.
TAMUT took an early lead in the third inning when Presley Humphrey hit a two-run home run. The Tigers responded with a home run of their own in the bottom of the inning and added three more runs in the fourth.
However, the Eagles rallied in the seventh, scoring five runs on four hits to reclaim the lead, 7-5. The Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
Mia Perez earned the win, allowing one hit and two runs over two innings of relief, with one strikeout and one walk.
Game 2: Texas A&M-Texarkana 4, William Carey 3
TAMUT faced #13 William Carey in the second game of the tournament. The Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning after Skyler Martin drove in a run with a single.
TAMUT had earlier taken a 2-0 lead off a two-run home run by Usrey. William Carey tied it in the fourth, but Martin's single put the Eagles back on top. The Eagles held onto their lead, winning 4-3.
Mia Perez started and pitched four innings, allowing four hits, two runs, one strikeout, and two walks. Alexis Snyder relieved, finishing the game with three scoreless innings.
Game 3: Texas A&M-Texarkana 4, Morningside 1
The Eagles earned their largest victory margin of the weekend, defeating Morningside 4-1.
TAMUT struck first with a sacrifice fly by Baylee Stautzenberger in the second inning. The Eagles extended their lead to 4-0 before Morningside scored a run in the seventh. The Eagles' defense held firm, closing out the game at 4-1.
Alexis Snyder picked up the win, allowing just five hits and one run over seven innings, with four strikeouts and no walks. Kasen Morkisch and Grace Cantu each had two hits and an RBI in the win.
Game 4: Texas A&M-Texarkana 5, Freed-Hardeman 4
The Eagles went to extra innings once again, this time against the (RV) Lions of Freed-Hardeman. The Lions rallied in the seventh, scoring three runs to force extra innings. In the eighth, a line out by Jaquelyn Schmidt drove in a run, giving TAMUT a 5-4 lead. The Eagles' defense held in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.
Rylee Glenn earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing only four hits and one run. She struck out three and walked three. Morkisch led the Eagles offensively with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBIs. Schmidt also had two hits in the win.

The Eagles will head to Tyler, Texas to face off in an RRAC doubleheader versus the Steers of Texas College on Tuesday, March 11. First pitch is scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
