Williams, Jean-Pierre Highlight Strong Day for Eagles at TAMUT Opener
TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana track & field teams officially opened the outdoor season on Friday, hosting the inaugural TAMUT Opener on March 13 at Pleasant Grove High School. Competing against Philander Smith, Arkansas Baptist, and Wiley University, the Eagles turned in a strong showing across sprints, distance, field events, and relays in their first home meet in program history.
Maurice Williams led the throws group with a pair of wins, capturing the discus with a mark of 39.86m and the shot put with a throw of 13.02m. Teammates Dorian Pruitt and Koltyn Lybrand placed second and third in the discus, while Pruitt also finished second in the shot put.
The Eagles dominated the men's long jump, sweeping the top three spots as Dexter Lockett won the event with a jump of 6.89m, followed by Senhotchy Saint Jean in second and Darlington Onsarigo in third. Wynell Winkfield added a fifth-place finish.
On the track, Jeffrey Legrand led a TAMUT one-two finish in the 100m, winning in 10.86, just ahead of Giovani Jean-Pierre at 10.87. Jean-Pierre later claimed the 200m title in 22.02, while Glenn Parker finished fourth and Legrand placed fifth.
Parker also added a third-place finish in the 400m with a time of 50.31, while Jayden Erikewe placed second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.91.
In the distance events, Chapman White captured the 1500m title in 4:20.46, with teammates Chris Avila, Graycen Vargo, Terrance Toliver II, Levi Wagner, and Faizone Ogendo all finishing in the top ten.
The Eagles also had a strong showing in the 3000m, sweeping the top two spots as Terrance Toliver II won in 9:33.30, narrowly edging teammate Chapman White. Ogendo and Vargo placed third and fourth to give TAMUT four of the top finishers.
In the relays, the 4x100m team of Tramaine Johnson Jr., Glenn Parker, Senhotchy Saint Jean, and Wynell Winkfield placed third with a time of 44.92, while the 4x400m relay team of Johnson Jr., Parker, Jean-Pierre, and Erikewe finished second in 3:31.84.
