Men’s Track & Field Kicks Off Indoor Season at Washburn
TOPEKA, Kan. – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's track and field team opened its indoor season Saturday at the Washburn Alumni Invitational.
The Eagles' top performance of the meet came in the triple jump, where Darlington Onsarigo placed fifth overall with a leap of 14.42 meters. Wynell Winkfield followed with a jump of 13.01 meters, while Senhotchy Saint Jean rounded out the event for TAMUT at 11.96 meters.
In the long jump, Saint Jean recorded a mark of 5.63 meters, just ahead of Winkfield, who posted a jump of 5.60 meters.
Maurice Williams led the way in the throwing events, recording a shot put throw of 12.51 meters. Dorian Pruitt added a mark of 9.69 meters. Williams also paced the Eagles in the weight throw with a toss of 12.86 meters, while Kolton Lybrand posted a throw of 12.03 meters and Pruitt recorded 11.19 meters.
On the track, Elyk Williams led TAMUT in the mile with a time of 4:41.05, followed by Graycen Vargo at 4:49.98. Williams also competed in the 1,000 meters, finishing in 2:44.62, while Vargo crossed in 3:08.15.
Giovani Jean-Pierre recorded a 6.90 in the 60-meter preliminaries, while Jayden Erikewe turned in an 8.36 in the 60-meter hurdles prelims.
Glenn Parker led the Eagles in the 400 meters with a time of 51.45, with Erikewe close behind at 51.64.
TAMUT closed the meet in the 200 meters with Jean-Pierre posting a time of 22.08, while Parker rounded out the event with a performance of 23.35.
The Eagles will return to action in the new year at the Friends University First-Chance Qualifier in Wichita, Kansas, on January 10.
