ALEXANDRIA, La. — The Texas A&M University-Texarkana men's tennis team faced a tough test Saturday afternoon, dropping a 6-1 decision to No. 9 Xavier University of Louisiana Gold Rush at a neutral site hosted by LSU Alexandria.
The Gold Rush claimed the doubles point, taking victories on courts one and two. The Eagles nearly picked up a win at No. 3 doubles, where Alvaro Tormo Lopez and Lucas Yamaguti battled in a tight 5-4 contest that went unfinished.
In singles play, TAMUT found success on court six as Lucas Yamaguti delivered a strong three-set victory, rallying for a 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win to secure the Eagles' lone point of the match.
Several other courts featured competitive battles, including a three-set effort from Matias Penaranda at No. 3 and Marc Gonzalez Molina at No. 4, both of whom claimed first sets before Xavier responded to take the matches. Fedir Zalievskyi also pushed his opponent in a tight second set at No. 2 singles.
Despite the final score, the Eagles showed fight across the lineup against one of the NAIA's top-ranked programs.
