Men’s Tennis Earns Wins Over Bethany and Southwestern in Oklahoma
EDMOND, Okla. – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's tennis team picked up a pair of victories on Saturday, defeating Bethany College 5–2 before sweeping Southwestern College 7–0.
Against Bethany, the Eagles opened the day by taking the No. 1 doubles match as Matias Penaranda and Jose Rodrigues secured a 6–2 victory. Bethany claimed the remaining two doubles courts to earn the opening point.
TAMUT responded strongly in singles play, winning five of the six matches to secure the team victory. Penaranda set the tone at No. 1 singles with a 7–5 win, while Fedir Zalievskyi added a straight-set victory at No. 2, 6–2, 6–1. Lucas Yamaguti battled through a tight match at No. 4, earning a three-set win after taking the opening set 7–6 before closing the match in a tiebreak.
Lawson Swain earned a solid 6–3, 7–5 victory at No. 5 singles, and Alvaro Tormo Lopez delivered a dominant performance at No. 6 with a 6–0, 6–2 win to help seal the 5–2 team result.
The Eagles continued their strong play in the second match of the day, sweeping Southwestern 7–0. TAMUT secured the doubles point before going on to win all six singles matches in straight sets to complete the shutout.
Men's Tennis will return to action on the road in Mobile, taking on Bethel University, University of Mobile, and Doane University at the Mobile Tennis Center on March 10–11.
