TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana Men's Tennis delivered a dominant day at home, securing a pair of 6–1 victories over East Texas Baptist University and the University of the Ozarks in non-conference play.
The Eagles opened competition against East Texas Baptist, dropping the doubles point in tightly contested fashion. The No. 1 duo of Matias Peñaranda and Fedir Zalievskyi earned a 7–5 win, but ETBU claimed narrow victories at No. 2 (7–6) and No. 3 (6–3) to take the early 1–0 advantage.
TAMUT quickly responded in singles, sweeping all six courts to secure the team win.
Zalievskyi set the tone at No. 1 singles with a decisive 6–3, 6–3 victory. At No. 2, Marc Gonzalez Molina battled back after dropping the first set to win in a third-set tiebreak, 1–6, 7–5, 1-0 (10–5). Jose Rodrigues added a straight-sets 6–4, 6–2 win at No. 3, while Peñaranda earned a shortened victory at No. 4.
Lucas Yamaguti dominated at No. 5 with a 6–0, 6–0 shutout, and Lawson Swain closed the sweep at No. 6, winning 6–3, 6–2 to seal the 6–1 final.
The Eagles carried that momentum into their matchup with the University of the Ozarks the following day.
UO claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, while Gonzalez Molina and Alvaro Tormo Lopez secured TAMUT's lone doubles victory at the No. 3 position, 6–2.
Trailing 1–0 once again, the Eagles responded with another singles sweep to secure their second 6–1 win of the weekend.
Sebastian Romanos led the comeback at No. 1 singles, grinding out a 7–6, 6–4 victory. Peñaranda followed with a dominant 6–0, 6–0 win at No. 2, and Yamaguti matched that scoreline at No. 3.
Fabio Veiga added a 6–0, 6–0 decision at No. 4, while Tormo Lopez earned a 6–2, 6–3 win at No. 5. At No. 6, Bramlett Baird outlasted his opponent in a tight third-set tiebreak, 6–4, 2–6, 13–11, to complete the singles sweep.
The Eagles secured a midweek sweep, building strong momentum as they continue their spring slate. Tennis will return home to host Oklahoma Wesleyan and Austin College on Friday, February 20, with matches scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
