ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Texas A&M University–Texarkana Men's Tennis went 1–1 over the weekend, earning a 5–2 victory over Christian Brothers University before falling 4–0 to NCAA Division II foe Ouachita Baptist University in non-conference action.
The Eagles opened the weekend with an impressive performance against Christian Brothers, using a doubles sweep to set the tone early. The No. 1 pairing of Matias Peñaranda and Fedir Zalievskyi rolled to a 6–0 win, while Sebastian Romanos and Lucas Yamaguti followed with a 6–1 victory at No. 2. Marc Gonzalez Molina and Alvaro Tormo Lopez completed the sweep with a 6–3 decision at the No. 3 spot.
Holding a 1–0 lead, TAMUT carried momentum into singles play, winning four matches to secure the team victory.
Gonzalez Molina battled through three sets at No. 2 singles, earning a 6–3, 5–7, 6–4 win. Peñaranda added another three-set triumph at No. 3, winning 6–4, 3–6, 6–3. Yamaguti delivered a straight-sets 6–2, 6–1 victory at No. 5, and Lawson Swain closed out scoring with a 6–4, 6–3 win at No. 6. Christian Brothers collected points at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, but the Eagles' depth proved decisive in the 5–2 final.
TAMUT returned to the court the following day to face Ouachita Baptist on the road.
The Tigers claimed early control by sweeping the doubles point, taking wins at all three positions. Ouachita Baptist then secured the match with straight-sets victories across the top four singles courts.
Sebastian Romanos fell 6–2, 6–3 at No. 1 singles, while Gonzalez Molina dropped a 6–0, 6–2 decision at No. 2. Fedir Zalievskyi was defeated 6–4, 6–2 at No. 3, and Peñaranda fell 6–0, 6–0 at the No. 4 position as Ouachita Baptist clinched the 4–0 team win.
The split weekend gives the Eagles valuable early-season momentum as they continue spring competition.
