TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's soccer team showed grit and determination against one of the nation's top programs but ultimately fell 4–2 to No. 11 nationally ranked LSU Shreveport on Saturday evening at Judy Kelley Morgan Field.
The Pilots, who sit atop the Red River Athletic Conference standings, jumped out to a 2–0 lead in the opening half and added two more goals midway through the second. The Eagles refused to go quietly, rallying late with back-to-back goals to cut into the deficit. Arturo Araiza put TAMUT on the board in the 78th minute off an assist from Ali Akram, and John Candelo followed just six minutes later with a goal assisted by Camilo Nicolas, making it 4–2.
TAMUT continued to press in the closing minutes but couldn't find another breakthrough. Goalkeeper David Yearwood recorded two saves, while Favour Eze, Araiza, and Candelo generated key scoring chances throughout the night.
With the result, the Eagles move to 5-4-5 (4-2-1 RRAC) as they continue to push for postseason positioning in the final stretch of conference play. The Eagles will now hit the road to Hobbs, New Mexico, to face the University of the Southwest on Thursday, October 23, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. CDT.
