TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's soccer team hosted the Stallions of North American University on Thursday night for a Red River Athletic Conference matchup. Despite a strong offensive showing, the Eagles fell 5–2 in a physical contest at Judy Kelley Morgan Field.
The Stallions struck first in the 16th minute on an unassisted goal by Joseph Figueroa and quickly extended their lead five minutes later when Sandile Mdauli found the back of the net off an assist from Figueroa. The Eagles continued to battle throughout the half, generating eight shots and three corner kicks, but went into the break trailing 2–0.
North American added to its advantage early in the second half with two goals in the opening ten minutes. Senior forward Diego Picano put the Eagles on the board in the 57th minute with a penalty kick to make it 4–1. Cristobal De Leon added another for TAMUT in the 81st minute, finishing off a pass from Derek Staiger to cut the deficit, but it wasn't enough as the Stallions sealed the 5–2 victory.
The Eagles were narrowly outshot 18–17 but maintained steady offensive pressure, forcing Stallion goalkeeper Gino Burioni to make eight saves. Goalkeeper David Yearwood recorded five saves for the Eagles in the match.
TAMUT drops to 2–4–4 (1–2 RRAC) on the season and will look to bounce back this weekend when they host Texas A&M–Victoria on October 4 at 3:30 p.m.
