Men’s Golf Shines with Top-Four Finish in Hobbs
HOBBS, New Mexico – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's golf team wrapped up tournament play this afternoon at the Battle in the Desert, hosted by the University of the Southwest at Rockwind Community Links in Hobbs, New Mexico.
The Eagles finished fourth overall in a competitive 15-team field that featured six Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) opponents—offering a strong preview of what's to come in the spring at the RRAC Championship.
Over three rounds, the Eagles combined for a total of 882 strokes (293–286–303), finishing +18 for the tournament. They came just three strokes behind third-place University of the Southwest and five strokes ahead of Texas A&M–Victoria.
JJ Walsh led the way for the Eagles, posting rounds of 75, 71, and 72 for a total of 218 (+2) to tie for 13th place. Walsh notched an impressive 13 birdies over 54 holes.
Jax Stovall turned in scores of 75, 67, and 78 for a 220 (+4) total, tying for 17th. His second round 67 stood out as one of the lowest rounds of the tournament at five under par.
Rylen Caldwell matched Stovall with a 220 (+4) total after rounds of 70, 73, and 77, also tying for 17th. Caldwell played steady golf throughout, recording only three bogeys across all 54 holes.
Junior Power finished tied for 30th with rounds of 73, 75, and 76 for a 224 (+8) total, while Israaq Anis rounded out the Eagles' team scoring with rounds of 78, 79, and 78 for a 235 (+19) finish.
Competing as an individual, Halston Baca posted rounds of 79, 75, and 78 for a 232 (+16) total, tying for 54th. Baca turned in a clean performance with no bogeys recorded throughout the tournament.
The Eagles will close out their fall schedule with a trip to Alexandria, Louisiana, for the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Louisiana Christian University on October 27–28.
