Men’s Basketball Secures 60–59 Conference Win Over Xavier
TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana Men's Basketball secured a thrilling conference win Thursday night, edging Xavier University of Louisiana 60–59 inside the Patterson Student Center.
The Eagles controlled much of the first half, taking a 31–29 lead into the break behind efficient shooting and strong interior play. TAMUT maintained its advantage throughout the second half, fending off multiple Xavier pushes to hold on for the one-point victory.
Daryl Houston led the Eagles with a dominant performance inside, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds while shooting 6-of-9 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Deovaunta Williams added 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals, providing key plays on both ends of the floor. Payton Chism contributed seven points and five rebounds with a team-high five assists, while Jakari Livingston also scored seven points off the bench.
Texas A&M–Texarkana shot 45.1% from the field and dished out 15 assists in the win, helping offset a tightly contested battle that featured 11 ties and 12 lead changes.
With the victory, the Eagles continue to build momentum in conference play as the regular season nears its close.
Texas A&M–Texarkana will return to action on Saturday, February 14th, hosting their last conference home game of the season at the Patterson Student Center. The Eagles will honor their seniors in a pregame Senior Day ceremony, with tipoff set for 3:00 p.m.
