Men's Basketball Rallies in Second Half to Defeat UNT Dallas, 64–57
CEDAR HILL, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's basketball team earned a hard-fought road victory Saturday afternoon, knocking off UNT Dallas 64–57 to complete the weekend trip with a conference win.
The Eagles and Trailblazers traded blows early, with four ties and four lead changes throughout the contest. UNT Dallas held a narrow 27–26 edge at the break, but TAMUT responded with a strong second half, outscoring the Trailblazers 38–30 to take control down the stretch.
TAMUT leaned on its defensive pressure and efficiency at the free-throw line in the final minutes, converting 12 second-half free throws and forcing 15 UNT Dallas turnovers that led to 16 points.
The Eagles also held advantages in points in the paint (26–18) and fastbreak points (11–5).
Deovaunta Williams led the Eagles with 12 points, while Jarren Cook added 15 points, knocking down three three-pointers. Payton Chism finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, and Jakari Livingston chipped in 13 points off the bench to provide a spark in key moments.
The Eagles controlled the glass with a 39–37 rebounding edge and limited UNT Dallas to just 34.6 percent shooting from the field.
With the win, TAMUT improves to 16–7 overall and 13–5 in RRAC play. Men's Basketball is back in action Thursday, February 12, as the Eagles host Xavier at 7:30 p.m. TAMUT will honor the Divine Nine during halftime.
