Men’s Basketball Comes Up Short at Xavier
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's basketball team came up short Saturday afternoon, falling 74–68 to Xavier University of Louisiana in Red River Athletic Conference action.
The Eagles stayed within striking distance throughout the first half, trailing 31–27 at the break before engaging in a back-and-forth second half that featured multiple lead changes and timely runs by both teams.
Jarren Cook led TAMUT with 22 points, knocking down six three-pointers to pace the Eagles offensively. Daryl Houston added 15 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, while Rodney Mason II chipped in 10 points off the bench to provide a spark.
TAMUT matched Xavier in points in the paint and finished with 19 bench points, while forcing 18 turnovers and turning them into 17 points. Despite a strong effort, the Eagles were unable to overcome Xavier's efficiency from the free-throw line and perimeter shooting in the final minutes.
The Eagles battled to the final whistle but were unable to close the gap late. and will look to bounce back as Red River Athletic Conference play continues in the coming days.
Men's Basketball will return to action on at home in the Patterson Student Center on Thursday, January 15th as they host the the Jaguars of A&M-San Antonio. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the women's game prior.
