Men’s Basketball Locks Down Wiley on the Road
MARSHALL, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's basketball team picked up a road victory Tuesday night, defeating Wiley University 60–47 inside Alumni Gymnasium to move to 2–3 on the season.
The Eagles jumped out to an early advantage and never looked back, leading 31–14 at halftime behind strong defensive pressure and relentless work on the glass. TAMUT held Wiley to under 20 percent shooting in the opening half, setting the tone for the road victory.
Jyrin Sowell paced the Eagles with a team-high 17 points while adding six rebounds and three steals in a well-rounded performance. Jarren Cook followed with 12 points and three assists, and Alex Orr chipped in 11 points as three Eagles finished in double figures. Daryl Houston controlled the boards with 10 rebounds, helping TAMUT dominate the rebounding battle 58–41.
Wiley made a push in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 33–29 over the final 20 minutes, but TAMUT answered each run with timely stops and second-chance opportunities. The Eagles scored 14 second-chance points and converted 16 points off Wiley turnovers to maintain control throughout the contest.
Defensively, TAMUT forced 17 turnovers and held Wiley to just 26.6 percent shooting from the field on the night, sealing another strong effort on the defensive end.
The Eagles will return home on December 2nd for a Red River matchup against Jarvis Christian inside the Patterson Student Center. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
