Bio
Matt Worwood enters his first season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Texas A&M University–Texarkana, bringing valuable experience from the NCAA Division I level at both Utah Valley University and the University of California, Berkeley.
Before joining the Eagles, Worwood served as a graduate assistant at the University of California, Berkeley during the 2024–25 season, contributing to the Golden Bears’ transition into their inaugural year in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Working under head coach Mark Madsen, he assisted with player development, opponent scouting, film breakdown, and daily practice operations. Cal finished the season 14–19 overall and 6–14 in ACC play, highlighted by a double-overtime win over Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament. Worwood helped support a talented roster led by standout freshman Andrej Stojakovi? and ACC All-Freshman honoree Jeremiah Wilkinson.
Prior to his time at Cal, Worwood spent four seasons (2020–24) on staff at Utah Valley University, including three years as the program’s head men’s basketball manager. During that span, he helped guide the Wolverines through one of the most successful stretches in program history. UVU captured two Western Athletic Conference regular-season championships (2020–21, 2022–23) and earned national recognition with a 28–9 campaign in 2022–23 that featured a run to the NIT semifinals. The Wolverines also posted three 20-win seasons and produced multiple All-WAC selections and major award winners, including WAC Players of the Year Fardaws Aimaq and Aziz Bandaogo and WAC Coach of the Year Mark Madsen.
A native of Caldwell, Idaho, Worwood earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Utah Valley University.
