The Eagles Control the Court in Commanding 73-59 Victory over the Wildcats
TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana men's basketball team hosted the Wildcats of Louisiana Christian yesterday afternoon for game two of a Red River Athletic Conference double header with the women.
The Eagles put together one of its most complete performances of the season, using strong defense and efficient scoring to power past Louisiana Christian 73-59. The Eagles set the tone early, holding Louisiana Christian to just 21 first-half points while building a 13-point lead.
Jyrin Sowell was a difference-maker off the bench, scoring 12 points while going a perfect 4-4 from the field and 4-5 from the free-throw line. Payton Chism and Doreante Tucker each added 11 points, with Chism hitting all three of his three-point attempts.
The Eagles dominated in the paint, outscoring Louisiana Christian 40-8 inside, and they also took advantage of turnovers, converting them into 14 points. While A&M-Texarkana wasn't lights-out from deep (5-15, 33%), they made their shots count at key moments, especially in the second half.
Defensively, the Eagles were locked in, holding Louisiana Christian to just 32.1% shooting for the game and forcing 14 turnovers. Daryl Houston contributed on both ends, finishing with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists while playing strong perimeter defense.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 16-8 on the season and 14-7 in conference play, continuing to build momentum as they push toward postseason action.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15, hosting the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs for their final home game of the season. Prior to tipoff at 3 p.m. in the Patterson Student Center, Men's Basketball will honor its two seniors in a special ceremony.
