The Eagles Dominate the Crusaders 97-73
FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana men's basketball team traveled to Farmers Branch for a nonconference matchup against Dallas Christian College on Thursday night. The teams previously met in TAMUT's home opener, where the Eagles secured a 26-point victory. They repeated that dominant performance with a 97-73 win.
The Eagles controlled the game on the boards, out-rebounding the Crusaders 51-24. Their dominance led to 24 second-chance points, while Dallas Christian managed just six.
The game opened with a 3-pointer from Doreante Tucker, giving TAMUT an early 3-0 lead. Dallas Christian quickly responded, and the teams traded baskets throughout the first half. In the final minutes before the break, TAMUT began to pull away. A basket by Daryl Houston put the Eagles up by seven, but a last-minute 3-pointer from Ny'Gel Boozer kept the Crusaders within striking distance.
TAMUT came out strong in the second half, extending its lead and never looking back. The Eagles outscored Dallas Christian 53-33 after halftime, shooting 57.6% from the field and 60% from beyond the arc.
Darius Smith led the Eagles with 19 points, while Jason Bush Jr. recorded his first double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Houston dished out four assists, and Jyrin Sowell had four steals.
TAMUT continues its road trip Saturday, traveling to Tyler to take on Texas College in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader with the women's team. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at Texas College.
