Eagles Fall Short in New Orleans, Gold Rush Prevails 72-54
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Eagles took a trip to New Orleans to face off against the (RV)Gold Rush of Xaver University in an RRAC matchup this evening. The Gold Rush snapped a four-game win streak for the Eagles, causing the Eagles to fall to 6-4 on the season and 5-3 in conference.
It was a slow start to the game for both teams, after a handful of missed shots Deovaunta Williams would bury a three pointer after the opening two minutes of play held both teams scoreless. RJ Moore would add another triple to the books for the Eagles and they would have an early lead of 6-0 over the Gold Rush. Xavier would quickly make up the differential, and the two teams would be no more than two possessions apart for the vast majority of the first half. An Eagles foul on a three-point attempt by Seviuhn Turner with just shy of seven minutes left of play in the first, would result in three made free throws for the Gold Rush, and Xavier would go on a 10-0 run over the Eagles. Going into the half, the Gold Rush was ahead of the Eagles with a score of 36-29.
A cold second half for the Eagles would allow the Gold Rush to control the game, never letting TAMUT get within 5 points of their lead. The Eagles shot only 21.9% from the field and went 1-12 from beyond the arc in the second leading to Xavier outscoring the Eagles 36-25. With 43 seconds left to play, Xavier would have their largest lead of the game with an 18-point differential over the Eagles and at the final buzzer the Gold Rush would defeat the Eagles, 72-54.
Daryl Houston would lead the Eagles in scoring with 12 points and Johnny Melvin, Doreante Tucker, and Rodney Mason II would all contribute 6 rebounds for TAMUT.
